Avoid These Hair System Mistakes for a Natural Look

June 19, 2024

Today, we’re going to talk about common mistakes to avoid when wearing a hair system.

Mistake 1: Choosing the Wrong Hair System
One of the most common mistakes I come across is choosing the right hair system. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, so ask yourself these questions:

What does my lifestyle look like?
Do I have an active lifestyle, a sedentary lifestyle, or something in between?
If you have an active lifestyle, I recommend going for a lace base (French lace, Swiss lace, German lace, etc.) because lace allows your scalp to perspire. If you live a more sedentary lifestyle, a poly system is probably more suitable. For those with a lifestyle in between, consider a hybrid system, which is a mix of poly and lace. If you choose a hybrid, make sure to have lace at the front for the most invisible hairline.

Mistake 2: Improper Application and Removal Techniques
The second most common mistake is improper application and removal techniques. Here are three rules of thumb:

Don’t tear off your hair system; use an adhesive remover like C22.
Avoid getting isopropyl alcohol on the base or hair, as it dries out and oxidizes the hair.
Keep wet glue away from lace. Use tape on the front of a lace and poly system if possible.

Mistake 3: Failing to Match Hair System Color
Matching the hair system color with your natural hair can be challenging. If you’re a new user, order a custom system and send a lock of your hair with the order. This helps the manufacturer match your actual hair color. If you’re just looking at the color code, it’s guesswork. Sending a lock of your own hair ensures a seamless transition between your hair system and natural hair, making it undetectable.

Mistake 4: Not Seeking Professional Help
Not seeking professional help when needed is another common mistake. If you’re having styling issues or facing problems early on in your hair system journey, reach out to a stylist or the manufacturer for advice. LaVivid is excellent at responding to queries about their hair systems. Don’t try to do everything yourself; it’s not easy and can be overwhelming.
